The New Trinity is an old church which has been converted into a
community centre and, as such, hosts all sorts of events from knitting
circles to Hardcore and Jungle Raves!
Probably Bristol's most well known venue (as opposed to club) it holds about
700 people and consists of two levels - as you enter you go upstairs to pay
and the area there is often used as the chill-out room or as an alternative to
what's happening downstairs, which is the main arena. Upstairs is cool and
very "church hall'y" whilst downstairs is usually hot, packed with people and
pretty wild!
[Note: the upstairs area is finally open again, but only
after the Shimmy crew rolled up their sleeves and did a lot of the work
themselves so that they could use it for their New Years Eve party! Trinity
have lost a lot of friends and respect for messing about so much but at least
it's open and usable now so we should be able to cool off at events in future.]
They usually have a 4 channel Starlight "surround" sound system which helps
contain the noise in the dancing area and allows it to be very loud in there
yet quiet outside. It gets extremely hot on a busy night as this area is
completely enclosed and not very well ventilated but the atmosphere is often
electric.
Trinity is now well known to local ravers and people come from within (at
least) a 50 mile radius for events there. Trinity is the 'home' for most of
the larger local Jungle, Techno, Trance and Hardcore nights such as Ruffneck Ting, Bristol Exposure, Strange Fruit, etc., they
usually stay open till 4am or 6am but it's often packed by midnight so don't
leave it too late and buying tickets in advance is becoming more and more of a
good idea too.
The water is left on in the toilets, bar prices are reasonable, security is by
the excellent local 'Elite' crew but the place is generally trouble-free
anyway as it's directly opposite Trinity Road police station! :-)
See "Forthcoming events" for details of what's
happening there in the near future.
