Without doubt the most well known club in Bristol is Lakota - a converted
warehouse with a capacity of 900 and what is known as a "Tex/Mex" decor. It is
divided into two levels (with a third promised), they run two big nights
('Temptation' and 'Fandango') which feature top name guest DJs every week,
plus events like 'Shaft' and 'Divine' on week-days.
The club itself is fairly sparsely decorated but environment is provided by
State Of Space with design by Em Space and vision
mixing by Sub Vision + VLC so the
overall visual effect is excellent and the sound system is superb.
'Temptation' is their Friday night session featuring the best in trance/techno
in the main room and jungle/drum & bass in the second room upstairs with the
likes of the Full Cycle and
Tribe crews running the later. There's no dress code
for this night, resident DJs are Ian Wilkie, Jody (Way Out West) and promoter
Leon Alexander, it runs from 10pm to 5am with monthly 6/7am finishes and
entrance is between £5 and £8 depending on membership status, finishing time,
etc.
'Fandango' is the Saturday session which is more house/garage oriented and
often features club tours such as Renaisance, Distinctive Records, etc. This
is much more mainstream than 'Temptation' but still light years away from a
"Ritzy" night, although the dress code is fairly strict ("smart club-wear
only") so dress up for it. The resident DJs are Grayson Shipley, Ivor Wilson,
Mark Davis and Charlotte, it runs from 10pm to 4am with one or more monthly
6am finishes and entry is between £8 and £12.
Both nights get rammed with people coming from all over the country for them
(literally) so expect to have to queue and early arrival is advisable,
especially as parking can get a bit tricky later on.
Lakota now have their own web page online so rather than repeat everything
here, you can go there to find out more about what the club is about, the guest DJs for the month, future projects, etc., the URL
