Dazee moved to Bristol when the rave movement was at it's peak and quickly
immersed herself in the South West free party scene. Closely watching all the
DJ's playing out, and with Nick Warren (Way Out West) as a house mate it
wasn't long before Dazee caught the DJ buzz. Through the insurance money from
a motorbike accident she set herself up with a pair of decks and from that
moment her "crusade" began. Dazee's first big break came at a Twisted party
where she remembers that the presence of a female DJ caused quite a stir -
"People in Bristol aren't shy. If there's something that intrigues them then
they find out about it!". The path to success has not been an easy one though,
as Dazee is free to admit - "I had a campaign back then - I was practically a
Jungle Jehovah's Witness!". Her mission has put her in a healthy position now
though, as her profile continues to get bigger and bigger.
As well as being a top flight DJ, Dazee has also been producing tunes as part
of Substance on Ruffneck Ting Records, being responsible for dance-floor
anthems such as 'Homeboyz', 'Damn Right', 'Prisoner/Fly', and 'L.F.Ant'. The
next few months will also see Dazee's first solo track being released - the
much hyped 'Homeboyz Remix'. With the rise of the role of DJ / producer this
is very much where Dazee sees herself. "When you've got your own fresh
dub-plates each month it makes playing out a lot more exciting, especially
when you're getting good reactions to your stuff. It also gives your DJing an
extra kick and makes you stand out from the next man ..... or woman." Her DJ
philosophy is simple - "I just want to play good music that people enjoy
listening and dancing to. I'm not trying to ram any particular style down
anyone's throats, I just want the people to have a good time."
Dazee truly lives and breathes jungle music, showing an unerring enthusiasm for
the sound, and an affinity with the jungle massive that is refreshing. With
such a hectic schedule there is increasingly less time for any unrelated
activities although this is something that clearly doesn't bother her, for as
she says - "My hobby is my work so I don't really need time for anything
else."
